Religion in the News...The Short Version

Blogger has been down sooooozzzzzzz howz about a short version of...Religion in the News for May13th, 2011.

The chart above say volumes...volumes. The article Is Your Religion Your financial Destiny is pretty interesting stuffs. The claim is that certain religions are naturally more prosperous and likewise, certain religions are the opposite (sad face). 67% of Reformed Jewish peeps made more than $75,000 a year (Hello, Jewish sugar momma's, my name is Kriss) but not all religions fared so well.

"On the other end are Pentecostals, Jehovah’s Witnesses and Baptists. In each case, 20 percent or fewer of followers made at least $75,000. Remarkably, the share of Baptist households making $40,000 or less is roughly the same as the share of Reform Jews making $100,000 or more (article)."

Speculating on the discrepancy the article states it is perhaps, a very big 'perhaps', that those religious peeps are encouraged to pursue jobs like teaching that, traditionally, are lower paying. Mmmm, probably not. I mean sure to a certain extent, but as the main reason-doubt it. They did mention education as a big factor and of course it is. Dugh.

Are we dead yet, not because of the Rapture, that is later this month, but because it is da da daaaa, Friday The 13th. Ewh, yucky, I'm scared. This is a good article that I mined from CCN Belief Blog of all places. Good info-n-stuffs, anyways...the best part of today is that I learned a new word..."paraskevidekatriaphobia" The irrational fear of Friday the 13th. Thanks Skeptics Dictionary.

Red Alert, Red Alert. I'm going to tell you something that you (Team Atheist) already know...Half of the New Testament is Forged. While the average super goodlooking, rational and smart Team Atheist member knows this little factoid, the peeps that should know it (Team Believer), do not. We have to keep hammering this home. Biblical literalism is why religious peeps are not down with the GLBT community, why misogyny is still holding back women, why creationism is creeping into the science classroom, the list goes on and on...

Have I mentioned that I heart AlterNet. It's so awesome. The last I checked Team Atheists numbers were around 12% here in the states. This article says that we are up to 15%-yeaaaaaa. Our numbers were the only ones to grow in ALL the states, here in America and in the world, that is the entire world, our numbers are up to 1 billion worldwide. That is what all the cool kids call...awesome sauce.

Have an awesome sauce weekend everyone. If you are in sunny Sac Town there is Friday Concert Series, 2nd Saturday and that Bicycle Film Festival (I'm deff checking that one out), Hope to c'ya there.
